BJP slammed the government for their "no" and "inefficient" handling increasing age. BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday criticized the government's "do not show statecraft" engaged in the age range covering army chief General VK Singh. "The government should have shown some sort statecraft topic behind closed doors," the opposition leader said the Rajya Sabha. Congress was quick to counter BJP, stating that the matter was between the Army Commander of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Defence.

Congress sources, meanwhile, said the government had gone the extra mile to placate the army chief and the views from the three legal experts, including two in the Attorney General the question of his age.
Use of the three opinions were "only to satisfy the" Gen Singh and persuade him against going to the Court, they said.
The government was "helpless" as the case went against the opinion of the three army chief, sources said, adding that to defuse the issue, back channel talks were also held with Gen Singh, and "it must have been accompanied by some of the other offer".
Rules and regulations require that the question of age should be raised by an officer before his retirement and a lot of facts does not help, when they come out just before retirement, they said.
What was the matter further, that if two records about the date of birth referred to army chief had in his favor, one opposed, and there was confusion in the fourth, the sources claimed.
The government also captured the junior officers Gen Singh to go to trial in the line of succession, the army chief's contention was rejected, even after three opinions had gone against him, they said.
