Microsoft bug spread Duqu virus

San Francisco: Microsoft Corp. said hackers out of their error which was previously unknown to infect computers running Windows Duqu virus, which some security experts say could be the next big threat of cyber attacks.

"We are working diligently to address the problem and releases security update for customers," Microsoft said a brief statement.

News Duqu surfaced in October, when the security software makers Symantec Corp. announced that a mysterious computer virus has been found, which contained the code is similar to Stuxnet, a piece of malware is believed to have wreaked havoc on Iran's nuclear program.

Government and private researchers around the world are racing to open the secret Duqu, early analysis indicates that it was developed to provide a basis for sophisticated hacker attacks on critical infrastructure such as power plants, oil refineries and pipelines.

Separately, Symantec researchers said they believe the hackers targeted the victims of the virus sent via e-mail, Microsoft Word documents attached to shabby.

He said that some of the source code was also used to use Duqu Stuxnet, cyber weapons are believed to have crippled centrifuges that Iran uses to enrich uranium.

This suggests that either the attackers behind the Stuxnet code developers Duqu, allowed it to be stolen, or are the same people who built Duqu, Haley said.

"We believe that this is the last one," he said.
